Murcia Corvera, the closest

Corvera is about a 35 to 40 minute drive and is a small, modern airport. You notice the advantage on arrival: from plane to hire car you are often through within half an hour, where Alicante can easily take twice that. With children and suitcases that can save you an hour.

The drawback is the choice of flights. The route network is smaller than Alicante's and changes with the season. There are usually flights from Belgium; from the Netherlands not always directly. So check what actually flies for your travel dates rather than what once did.

Alicante-Elche, the largest

Alicante is about 80 kilometres away, which comes down to roughly an hour on the motorway. It is one of Spain's busiest airports, with far more direct connections to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, year round and at sharper prices.

Allow more time inside the airport: longer queues at passport control, baggage reclaim and the car hire desk. In high season that is not a detail.

Which to choose

If you find a direct flight to Corvera at a comparable price, take it. Closer, quicker through, less hassle.

If the difference in price or timing is substantial, Alicante is perfectly fine. That extra half hour of driving is nothing next to a flight that suits you far better.

Travelling with small children, the speed at Corvera counts for more than you expect beforehand. An hour less waiting at the end of a travel day is worth a lot.

Hire car, transfer or public transport

We recommend a hire car. Not because you need it every day, since the beach, the promenade, the mud baths and the supermarket are all within walking distance, but because the Costa Cálida and the Costa Blanca only open up with a car. Cartagena, Murcia, La Zenia, Torrevieja: all within half an hour to three quarters. There is plenty of free public parking at both houses.

If you would rather not drive, a private transfer is the easiest option. You book it in advance and the driver is waiting on arrival. From Alicante allow a good hour.

Public transport is possible but slow and involves changes. Neither airport has a direct connection to San Pedro del Pinatar. With suitcases and children that is not a pleasant start to a holiday.

How arrival works with us

Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out is at 11:00. If you arrive after 22:00, let us know in advance; there is a late arrival surcharge, which is set out in the house rules.

Tell us your expected arrival time as soon as you know it. We or Henk and Petra will be there to welcome you and hand over the keys in person. No key safe, no code on a note.

A booking has to be made at least 24 hours before arrival. That is not a formality: that time is needed to clean after the previous guests and arrange the welcome.
